$2 Million Gift from Women’s Hospital Foundation to Support Nursing Scholarships and Educational Technology
Stevenson is pleased to announce that the Women’s Hospital Foundation, Inc., has pledged $2 million to the university’s Sandra R. Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions. The gift–one of the largest to the university in the university’s 74-year history–will be used to support scholarships for nursing students as well as new educational technology to enhance teaching and professional preparation.
“The Women’s Hospital Foundation has been a great friend and supporter of Stevenson nursing for many years,” said President Hirshman. “The Foundation’s generosity has helped us to ensure quality nursing education for our students—from endowed professorships to this most recent gift for scholarships and educational technology. We are very grateful for this extraordinary gift and for the Foundation’s commitment to fostering access to and excellence in nursing education.”
A significant portion of the Foundation’s gift to Stevenson will be dedicated to scholarships that enhance students’ access to nursing education, an initiative that helps meet the region’s ongoing need for highly skilled and qualified nurses. Additional funds from the gift will be used to implement new educational technology in courses that develop students’ skills in patient health assessment and prepare Stevenson nursing students for licensure.
“The Women’s Hospital Foundation is thrilled to make this gift to Stevenson’s Sandra R. Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions,” said Foundation President Catherine Boyne. “The Foundation is committed to attracting, educating, and providing our region with expertly trained nurses and looks forward to a continued partnership.”
The Women’s Hospital Foundation is a Maryland-based charitable organization tracing its roots to the Hospital for the Women of Maryland of Baltimore City, better known as The Women’s Hospital, which served the healthcare needs of women and operated a hospital in the Bolton Hill section of Baltimore from 1882 until 1965. During much of its period of operation, the Women’s Hospital also operated a nursing school. Today the Women’s Hospital Foundation continues the mission of the hospital’s founders by providing support to organizations and educational institutions which seek to improve health care education and broaden access to health care services.
Stevenson’s nursing program was founded in 1991 and has since graduated more than 3,000 bachelor’s and master’s nursing students. As of Fall 2021, Stevenson served 485 students in its traditional undergraduate nursing program, 255 students in its RN-to-BS/Associate to Bachelor’s nursing program, and 130 students in its Master’s in Nursing program.

Â鶹ÊÓƵÃâ·ÑÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Named a “Best Value School” in the 2022 U.S. News College Rankings
For the fourth year in a row, Â鶹ÊÓƵÃâ·ÑÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ has been named among the nation’s “Best Value Schools” by U.S. News and World Report. The 2022 Best Colleges listings, released September 13, also ranked Stevenson among the “Best Regional Universities-North” and “Best Colleges for Veterans.”
To assign a university the “Best Value” designation, U. S. News evaluates an institution’s academic quality and its net cost of attendance after the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the value. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that are above average academically.
“We are pleased that Stevenson has been recognized among the Best Value Schools in our region and the nation four years running,” said Elliot Hirshman, President of Â鶹ÊÓƵÃâ·ÑÔÚÏß¹Û¿´. “Stevenson is committed to ensuring access to an exceptional college experience for students and their families through a broad range of institutional aid and scholarship programs. We also believe that our strong focus on career education and providing personalized support to help our students grow intellectually, socially, and professionally all contribute to the value of a Stevenson education.”
