Stevenson Mock Trial Starts Spring 2024 Season with Strong Performances

At Drexel University on January 13-14, Stevenson put in a strong performance against teams from Seton Hall University, the University at Buffalo, and Drexel University. Freshman team member Kandi Mkpasi received the outstanding witness award.

At John Hopkins University on January 20-21, Stevenson competed against teams from George Washington University, Rutgers University, and Binghamton University. The team won all but one of its rounds and ultimately placed third out of 17. In addition, three team members were recognized for their individual performance. Marissa Chappell and Ahad Khan were both awarded outstanding attorney, and Melanie Lopez was awarded outstanding witness.

Both teams will next travel to the regional tournament at Haverford College on February 24-25. Study Abroad Spotlight: South Korea

Stevenson students are traveling to South Korea this summer as part of History 211, Topics in History. From July 19-28, students will learn about Korean culture and history, while experiencing the country’s contemporary pop-culture. Before leaving, students will learn the basics of the Korean language to prepare for this full-immersion experience.

Once in Korea, students will be visiting the cities of Seoul, Busan, and Gyeongju. In each, they’ll tour museums, enjoy bustling night life, visit historic temples and palaces, and, of course, taste delicious Korean food.

Students Work Together and Create New Games at Stevenson’s Global Game Jam

Get ready for a weekend of fun and game design at 麻豆视频免费在线观看’s Global Game Jam 2024. The Global Game Jam is the world’s largest event devoted to making games entirely from scratch. Each year, events are held at over 600 locations across 90 countries and attract more than 30,000 participants.

Stevenson’s 2024 jam will be held Friday, February 3 – Sunday, February 5. During that time, groups of students will work together to create a new videogame, boardgame, card game, or other game around a shared theme. All students are welcome, and no experience in game creation is needed. Mentors will be present to help with game design, and food, software, and other supplies will be provided.

“Global Game Jam is an excellent opportunity to get creative, learn some new things, meet some new people or do something really fun with friends,” said Meagan Nyland, Director of Experiential Learning, Senior Lecturer of English, and organizer of the Stevenson game jam. “You don’t need any previous experience and can make any kind of game you want. We fully fund the supplies for the games made during the weekend.”

Symposium Celebrates 麻豆视频免费在线观看 Leadership Scholars, Service Scholars, and Honors Students

The Scholars Program held its Fall 2023 Scholars Symposium in the Rockland Center on Thursday, December 14. The event showcased recent work by Stevenson’s Leadership Scholars, Service Scholars, and Honors Students.

Over the course of the two-hour symposium, students presented original research and projects through posters, oral presentations, and roundtable discussions. Topics included cybersecurity, diversifying the healthcare field, the psychological impacts of method acting, hunting for bacteriophages, and gender differences in generative AI. The work on display represented the wide range of academic programs offered at Stevenson, as well as the many opportunities for independent student scholarship and projects offered through our Honors, Service, and Leadership programs.

Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in service projects led by Service Scholars. These included bookmarks for the Maryland Book Bank and packing essentials that will be distributed to the unhoused by Project PLASE (People Lacking Ample Shelter and Employment).

Greenspring Review Announces Winners of First Annual New Voices Contest

On Tuesday, December 5, , Stevenson’s student-run literary magazine, named the winners of its first annual New Voices Contest, a creative writing contest open to all Maryland high school students.

“The New Voices Contest awards went out to the pieces that truly touched our editors,” said Samantha Stephenson ’24, editor-in-chief of The Greenspring Review. “Not only did this contest give us the opportunity to lift up outstanding achievers with recognition, but we also spent countless hours delivering personalized feedback in order to encourage the entrants to continue improving their piece and their writing in general, even if they didn’t win.”

Over 200 high school students from across the state submitted their work. Out of those students, 18 were selected for special recognition and invited to Stevenson’s campus with their families where the top three winners were announced. Naomi Ling won first place for “”* (*Chinese, meaning “teeth”); second place went to Summer Haddad for “”; and third place was awarded to Hannah Ahn for “”. The honorable mentions can be viewed .

“By drawing a large number of submissions, the contest offered a new experience for the editorial board and challenged them to adapt and work in ways that are closer to conditions in small presses and magazines,” said Aaron Chandler, Chair of English, History, and Humanities, and Associate Professor of English. “The contest inspired and motivated the young writers of the state to generate and share their best creative material, while also raising awareness of Stevenson’s English program among Maryland high school students, especially those interested in creative writing.”

Stevenson Hosting Members of the Inaugural Class of the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps Programs

Maryland State Senator Hettleman and Delegates Cardin, Pasteur, and Stein are excited to announce the participation of 麻豆视频免费在线观看 as a host site for the inaugural class of Service Year Option and Maryland Corps members, a partnership with the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation.

in its first year is expanding service and volunteerism statewide, creating new pathways of service to meet community needs, enhance workforce development, and promote preparedness for both higher and vocational education. Roles at the host sites can range from academic tutoring, assisting in healthcare facilities, and advancing public safety to taking up environmental conservation projects.

About Maryland’s Service Year Option and Maryland Corps Programs:

The Service Year Option is a service opportunity for young adults who recently completed high school. Members earn at least $15 an hour and work at least 30 hours a week. Members gain both hard and soft skills through a service placement aligned with their area of interest, in addition to working with support coaches to develop and refine their post-service plans—whether they include college, career, or continued service.

Maryland Corps is a service opportunity for people of all ages. Like the Service Year Option, members earn a minimum of $15 dollars an hour working in organizations that provide job training and professional development. Program partnerships with both Maryland’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities and community colleges provide an additional level of collaboration and support for members, in addition to alignment with skilled trades and apprenticeship programs to facilitate transition into continued education or the workforce. Following completion of their service year, participants in both programs will earn a completion award of $6,000 that may be accessed as a direct payment or as a deposit into a Maryland 529 Education Account for those pursuing their studies.

Stevenson’s Brown School of Business and Leadership to Host Student Expo, Dec. 8

The Brown School of Business and Leadership Student Expo will be held on Friday, December 8, 1-3 p.m. During the event, students from all business majors will display their projects throughout the Brown School of Business and Leadership building.

The Expo is a chance for students to share their work with faculty and peers, while also meeting and connecting with internship supervisors, advisory board members, company partners, and other guests from the region’s business community.

Stevenson Mock Trial Takes First Place at Haverford College Black Squirrel Invitational

The team won 10 out of 12 of its trials against Wesleyan College, American University, Tufts University, and Yale University. The Black Squirrel Invitational is known as one of the best and most challenging mock trial tournaments. Partnership Gives Stevenson Cybersecurity Students Two Valued Department of Defense (DOD) Certifications

With the renewal, Stevenson remains one of only 16 universities nationwide to be designated a National Centers of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence (CDFAE). This important partnership helps Stevenson and DC3 to prepare the next generation of cybersecurity and digital forensics professionals.

The agreement grants Stevenson students who graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics two certificates of completion—the CDFAE Digital Forensic Examiner and Digital Media Collector. Highly valued by the DOD and other federal agencies, graduates with these certificates can receive associated DOD certification if they are employed by a federal employer or federal contractor. The agreement applies to students who earn their Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics degree through Stevenson’s traditional learning and online bachelors programs.

The agreement also benefits students studying at the DOD DC3 Cyber Training Academy (CTA). Under the agreement, students completing courses at the CTA can transfer up to 15 credits towards a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics from Stevenson.
