Stevenson Women鈥檚 Soccer and Field Hockey Make 2024 MAC Commonwealth Playoffs

Two 麻豆视频免费在线观看 fall sports teams will be in action this week as the women鈥檚 soccer and field hockey teams will be participating in the 2024 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Conference playoffs.

The field hockey team鈥攕eeded third鈥攚ill take on second-seeded York College of Pennsylvania on the road at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the conference semifinals. Stevenson defeated York earlier in the second in a shootout. Should Stevenson be victorious, they will play the winner of the other semifinal on Wednesday (Alvernia-Messiah) on Saturday.

The women鈥檚 soccer鈥攕eeded fourth鈥攚ill travel to top-seeded Messiah to take on the semifinals at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Should Stevenson win, the Mustangs will take on either York or Eastern on Saturday in the conference championship.

The winner of the conference championship will receive the conference鈥檚 automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Stevenson Marketing Students Help Nonprofit Promote New History Tour by Boat

This fall, students in Professor Jeannine Morber鈥檚 MKT 320 Advanced Digital Marketing course have been working with local nonprofit to help launch its new tours. The boat tours, sponsored by PNC Bank and the National Park Service, take visitors through the Inner Harbor while tour guides highlight important moments, people, and places from Baltimore鈥檚 more than 300 years of history.

鈥淥ur class worked with Baltimore Heritage to create a digital marketing plan to promote their historical boat tour,鈥 said Yuri Antoine, a senior Marketing major. 鈥淲e identified target audiences鈥攊ncluding sports enthusiasts, history fans, and tourists鈥攖hen developed Google and social media ads, as well as an email marketing campaign with tailored messaging and visuals. We set up tracking metrics to monitor performance and optimize engagement and conversions effectively.鈥

In addition to helping Baltimore Heritage reach new audiences, the students also developed website landing pages, email marketing templates, pricing strategies, and promotional assets.

鈥淲e created landing pages, blog posts, email and social media examples, and branded swag for Baltimore Heritage to adopt in their future campaigns,鈥 said Jenye Stanley, a senior Marketing major. 鈥淚 also wrote a about my experience on their boat tour. It is rewarding seeing my work and my classmates鈥 work published and contribute to Baltimore Heritage鈥檚 purpose.鈥

Stevenson Marketing students created “I Boated” stickers to help Baltimore Heritage promote its new boat tours.

Working with Baltimore Heritage not only provided the Marketing students with valuable real-world experience, but connected their coursework to their future careers.

鈥淚 learned the importance of collaborating with a marketing team while focusing on various aspects of a project to ensure everything runs cohesively,鈥 said Maddie Buher, a senior Marketing major. 鈥淥verall, this was a great experience learning how to work with a local Baltimore nonprofit organization in promoting a new product and seeing the success firsthand.鈥

Stevenson鈥檚 New Berman Family Performing Arts Center Rises on North Campus

Construction continues on the new Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center, but two of the building鈥檚 signature features鈥攖he Herman and Walter Samuelson Foundation Theater and the Music Performance Stage鈥攁re taking shape.

When complete, the facilities will provide new state-of-the-art venues for stage and musical productions at Stevenson, as well as hosting fashion, dance, speakers, and other fine arts and cultural events.

The major naming gift from the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Charitable Foundation provided significant support for the performing arts center. The Samuelson Foundation Theater was supported by a generous $1 million gift from the Herman and Walter Samuelson Foundation, made possible by the foundation鈥檚 trustees, Louis and Phyllis Friedman. The finished Berman Family Performing Arts Center will also include Fine Foundation Lobby, Bozzuto Family Box Office, Peggy and Yale Gordon Trust Lighting and Audio Control Room, Mangione Family Marquee, scene shop, and support spaces.

The Berman Family Performing Arts Center is the latest addition to Stevenson鈥檚 North campus academic hub, which currently includes the Zaffere Library, Manning Academic Center, and the School of Design, Arts, and Communication.

2024 Shapiro/Rouse Lecture Welcomes Hugo Kugiya, Reporter for The Baltimore Banner

Hugo Kugiya, a roving, regional reporter for The Baltimore Banner whose beat focuses on counties outside of Baltimore City, will be the featured speaker at the 16th annual Shapiro/Rouse lecture to be held Wednesday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m in the Claire Moore Room in Garrison Student Union. He will give a lecture entitled, 鈥淪torytelling Will Get You Everywhere: Communication in the Age of AI.鈥 His insights will be of great interest to Communication Studies students, but also students interested in Marketing and Business Communications, as well as any student interested in learning how artificial intelligence can influence creative careers.

Before joining The Baltimore Banner, Kugiya served as a national correspondent for the Associated Press and Newsday, and was a sportswriter for The Seattle Times. He recently won first place in the 2023 Associated Press Sports Editors contest. Kugiya is also the author of 58 Degrees North: The Mysterious Sinking of the Arctic Rose, a non-fiction book delving into the 2001 sinking of the fishing trawler Arctic Rose.

Dr. Page works on the James Webb Space Telescope, leading a team supporting operations of the Near InfraRed Spectrograph (NIRSpec), one of the four scientific instruments on the telescope. As an expert in the field of star formation, Dr. Page鈥檚 work explores the origins of our solar system, and others like it, by studying solar systems currently in the process of being born鈥攁lso known as protostellar systems.

The event will also recognize Biochemistry major MacKenzie Redding as the 2024 Slattery Scholar.

The Slattery Lecture honors the legacy of Susan Palmer Slattery, Ph.D., former Chair of Stevenson鈥檚 Mathematics Department, who passed away in 2010. 鈥淲e created a network of walking trails to connect our campuses and provide access to the beautiful natural areas between them,鈥 Rosicky said. 鈥淭he trails follow the scenic Gwynns Falls waterway and provide a peaceful and functional shortcut between the dorms, athletic fields, stadium, and the academic buildings on North campus.鈥

鈥淲henever I鈥檝e hit a roadblock in one of my classes or start really stressing out, I鈥檒l usually take a walk on the trails,鈥 said Evan LaPointe, a junior Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics major. 鈥淚 look at all the nature and just sit and really think about the problems while in a nice, serene environment.鈥

Beyond the recreational benefits, the trails also offer hands-on learning and research opportunities for students in the sciences. Past projects have focused on the lifecycle of trees and on .

鈥淭he trails are not only an escape, but they help further my academics as an environmental science major,鈥 said Abbie Peterson, a senior Environmental Science major.

Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation Commits to Third Year of Matching Pledges for Middle-Income Student Scholarships

The Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars Program for Middle-Income Students provides incoming Stevenson students with a $2,500 scholarship for each of their four years, for a total of $10,000. Students with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and whose families earn between $75,000 and $175,000 per year are eligible for the scholarship.

麻豆视频免费在线观看’s Marching Band can be seen in the opening scenes of Lady in the Lake, a new miniseries streaming on Apple TV+. The series, adapted from the novel of the same name by author Laura Lippman, focuses on a journalist’s efforts to solve two unsolved murders in 1960s Baltimore.

The Marching Band’s scenes鈥攕et during the series’ 1966 Thanksgiving Parade鈥攚ere filmed in September 2022 during the first week of classes. The band’s participation required careful planning, recalled Director of Music Mark Lortz.

“The production company put out the call for a marching band,” Lortz said. “Due to their filming schedule, we had to work quickly to make sure the students could participate, but it was a fantastic opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”

The Marching Band and faculty were on set in Downtown Baltimore for a full day of filming. The day began with initial staging and choreography work at the War Memorial Plaza before moving to Water Street for filming.

“The students had the opportunity to see what goes into making a cinematic production,” Lortz said. “The experience gave all the students a peek behind-the-scenes, while giving them the chance to interact with the actors, the producers, the camera operators, the set people, and everyone involved. The director herself was really taken by the band’s performance.”

The first two of the series’ six episodes premiered on July 19. The remaining episodes will be released on Fridays over the next four weeks.
